The Central Library of Dakshin Kamrup Girls’ College was established in the year 1988. In the beginning it had a collection of only 1005 books. It was in the year 1993 that the central library was shifted to the existing building, which was donated by “Charu Prakashan” a premier book publishing organization. Since then the library has made consistent progress in terms of collection of books, periodicals, services and infrastructure. The library regularly subscribes e-journal and e-books from N-LIST digital library of INFLIBNET. The library is catering to the needs of about 2000 readers consisting of Teachers, Students, Employees and Others.

RULES AND REGULATIONS GOVERNING THE USE OF THE DAKSHIN KAMRUP GIRLS’ COLLEGE LIBRARY

  1. WORKING HOURS OF THE LIBRARY
    1. The Library shall remain open to the readers from 9.00 AM to 4.00 PM on all working days.
    2. The issue counter will remain open from 10.00 AM to 3.00 PM on all working days.
    3. The working hours may be extended or curtailed in special circumstances by prior notice on the notice board.
  2. MEMBERSHIP
    1. All the bonafied students, teachers, regular employees of the college are the member of the Library.
    2. The Research Scholars and outsiders are also eligible to take the membership of the library at the payment of an amount fixed by the Library Committee.
  3. CATEGORIES OF MEMBERSHIP AND THEIR PRIVILEGES:
    The categories of membership, number of books to which entitled and period of loan shall be as follows:

    A person eligible to be enrolled as a member of the Library under Rule 2 above, will fill up and sign a Membership Form obtainable from the Library.
  4. ADMISSION IN THE LIBRARY:
    1. Any person eligible to become member of the Library or permitted by the Librarian may be admitted to the Library.
    2. On entering the Library every user shall be required to write legibly his/her name, class etc. in the visitor’s register kept for the purpose at the entrance of the Library. Such a signature will be taken as an acknowledgement that the person agrees to abide by the Library rules.
    3. While entering the Library all personal belongings such as bags, umbrellas, boxes, file, personal books, and books not mean to be returned to the Library etc. shall be deposited at the property counter at their own risk.
    4. The Librarian shall have power to refuse admission to any one infringing the Rules & Regulations of the Library and will report to the Principal/Library Committee if the offence is serious in nature.
  5. USE OF STAKE AND READING ROOM:
    1. Readers are required to maintain the order of the books on the shelves.
    2. It is required to put down signature on the register book available with the person on duty for the consultation of any book in the reading room on producing identity card of the college.
  6. PROCEDURE FOR ISSUING AND RETURNING BOOKS:
    1. At the time of borrowing a book the borrower shall deposit the Reader’s Card (Library Card) against which the book shall be issued.
    2. The Reader’s Card (For Students only) will be valid for one academic year only and not transferable.
    3. Any misuse of Reader’s Card may lead to cancellation of privilege enjoyed by the member.
    4. Loss or Damage of Reader’s Card must be reported immediately to the Librarian. In this situation the Librarian may issue a duplicate Reader’s card. Duplicate Reader’s Card shall be issued on payment at Cash counter of the College.
    5. Books must be returned on the stipulated period. Books may be renewed after the loan period if there is no call for the books.
    6. Any member retaining a book beyond the time allowed shall pay an overdue charge of Rs. 1/- (Rupees one only) per day until the book is returned and will not be allowed to take out any more books until the charge is paid.
    7. Readers should carefully examine the books issued to them before leaving the Library Counter. They shall bring immediately to the notice of the Librarian/ Library Personnel any damage of the books issued. Otherwise the borrower will be responsible for any such damage and he/ she may be required to replace it.
    8. The Reference Books (Books treated as Reference by the Library), Rare Books, Journals, Magazines, Bulletins, Reports, News papers etc. will not be issued to be taken out of the Library. In special cases the Librarian at his discretion may issue a Reference book/ Journal for overnight.
  7. LOSS OF LIBRARY CARD:
    Loss or Damage of Reader’s Card must be reported immediately to the Librarian. In this situation the Librarian may issue a duplicate Reader’s Card. Duplicate Reader’s Card shall be issued on payment of an amount fixed by the Library Committee at Cash Counter.
  8. USE OF BOOKS:
    1. Every person taking a book out of the Library and Reader of the Library shall be responsible for the book and shall return it undamaged.
    2. Any person entitled or permitted to use the Library, if found guilty of mutilating or disfiguring or defecting by writing in the margin, underlining sentences, marking pages or in any other way, or of losing a book, journal or other property belonging to the Library shall be required to replace.
    3. If replacement will not be possible, double price will be required to pay. Further he/ she may be fined and deprived of the privileges of the Library to be decided by Library Committee/ Principal of the college.
    4. No book(s) shall be issued on loan, which in the opinion of the Librarian, is not a condition to be handled by the borrower.
    5. Books on loan should be handled with care.
  9. CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE:
    1. A student must take CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE from the Library at the end of course; otherwise she will not be entitled to get her Admit Card to any examination.
    2. The employee members (Teaching/Non-teaching staff) who will get retirement and will leave the college shall be required to take CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE from the Library for getting their release order and last pay.
  10. OTHER RULES:
    1. Conversation, making noise, murmuring etc. inside the Library are strictly prohibited.
    2. Silence should be strictly maintained in the Library.
    3. Using Mobile Phone is strictly prohibited in the Library premises.
    4. When the students have any complain about the Library Service they should not enter into argument with the Library Staff, but bring it to the notice of the Librarian in writing.
  11. XEROX FACILITY:
    Xerox facility is available in the Library. This facility is exclusively for academic purpose only. Reference books and Rare books will not be issued for Xerox.
  12. CHANGE OF RULES:
    1. The Library Rules may be amended or altered as and when necessary.
N.B: Library Rules have been approved in the meeting of the Library Committee.
